Veronica Roth, ?Divergent? Author on Anxiety and How Writing Helped Her Cope

Veronica Roth, author of the bestselling novel ‘Divergent,’ on which the blockbuster movie is based, opened up about how writing the novel helped her cope with her anxiety. She spoke out on the subject in a new interview with People magazine. The 25-year-old Veronica Roth had already achieved immense success as a first-time novelist with her young adult dystopian thriller ‘Divergent’ and wrote two more books forming a trilogy. As the movie hits the big screen, the studio has already greenlighted its sequel, ‘Insurrgent’ based on her second novel of the same title. A great cause for celebration! And all the more so, as writing these novels which are all set in Chicago of a near-future dystopia has helped her come to grips with anxiety which she has had for many years, growing up as a “nerdy perfectionist.” She told People magazine, “People often conflate fear and anxiety, but they’re not the same thing. All human beings have fears because fear is healthy.
